LONDON: Cristiano Ronaldo is sport’s top earner on social media, according to new analysis by analytics firm HopperHQ.
Coming out on top of HopperHQ’s 2019 Instagram rich list in the sports category, the Juventus and Portuguese soccer star can apparently ear as much as US$975,000 per post.
Ronaldo, who has 172.8 million Instagram followers, finished comfortably ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil forward Neymar, who could earn US$722,000 per post. The highest-placed non-soccer player was National Basketball Association (NBA) icon LeBron James (US$272,000).
The highest ranked woman was former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Ronda Rousey (US$67,700), just ahead of veteran tennis ace Serena Williams (US$60,500).
The list was dominated by soccer players, taking up eight places in the top ten. Aside from James, the only other athlete to break the monopoly was Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli (US$196,000). No National Football League (NFL) or Major League Baseball (MLB) player made the cut.
