AFC Empowering Women in Football Programme graduates set to champion inclusivity
.
—- The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today celebrated its latest milestone in the pursuit of advancing women’s leadership in Asian football with the successful completion of the inaugural AFC Empowering Women in Football Programme (AEWFP).
Launched in April 2025 as part of the AFC Academic Centre of Excellence (ACE)’s ever-growing portfolio of educational initiatives, the first iteration of the AEWFP welcomed 47 participants who explored the diverse contributions and achievements of women in football, both on and off the pitch.
Delivered virtually, the programme featured a comprehensive curriculum that combined theoretical perspectives with practical applications and interactive case studies – all designed to equip participants with the essential skills to understand the global football ecosystem through the lens of gender equity and inclusion, and to identify and overcome industry barriers through ethical, strategic and diplomatic practices.Curated specifically for current and future leaders in the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs), Regional Associations (RAs) and other stakeholders, the AEWFP comprised seven bespoke modules, covering a wide range of topics including empowering women in leadership roles, organisational innovation, ethics and governance, and the impact of inclusivity on football business environments. In congratulating the graduates, AFC Deputy General Secretary – Member Associations, Vahid Kardany, said: “The AFC remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting its Member Associations and Regional Associations in realising their full potential, united in our shared aspiration of strengthening the AFC’s stature as a model Confederation.“As we celebrate our past achievements and look ahead to future successes, it is vital to recognise that women account for half of this collective journey. This programme underscores the transformative impact of women in football, and as graduates of this landmark initiative, I hope you will be inspired to continue shaping a lasting legacy in our beautiful game.”Graduates of the AEWFP now join the growing network of AFC ACE alumni, equipped to address organisational challenges, drive innovation and champion diversity and inclusion within their respective football environments.
