WADA approves lifting of Analytical Testing Restriction on the Warsaw Laboratory

Montreal: The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announces that, following a recommendation from its Laboratory Expert Advisory Group (Lab EAG) dated 28 September 2026, WADA’s Executive Committee (ExCo) Chair, Witold Bańka, has approved lifting the Analytical Testing Restriction (ATR) on the anti-doping laboratory in Warsaw, Poland. The ATR was initially imposed on 10 March 2026 and was limited to the application of the Confirmation Procedure for the substances related to modafinil (e.g., modafinil acid, modafinil, and adrafinil).

The ExCo Chair’s decision to lift the ATR took effect on 5 October 2026. Consequently, as of this date, the laboratory was able to resume all of its anti-doping activities.

The ATR was imposed for a period of up to six months. During the ATR period, WADA’s Lab EAG reviewed the measures undertaken and the evidence provided by the Laboratory, which demonstrated that the actions implemented were satisfactory. Therefore, the issues that gave rise to the ATR have been resolved, and the requirements to lift the ATR have been satisfactorily addressed by the Laboratory.

Under the International Standard for Laboratories, WADA is responsible for accrediting and re-accrediting anti-doping laboratories, thereby ensuring they maintain the highest quality standards.
