AUSTIN: Kimi Antonelli delivered a masterclass in precision racing to charge from pole position to claim a lights-to-flag victory at the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.

The 20-year-old Italian driver controlled the 56-lap contest with mature composure, fending off early pressure from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to secure his eighth victory of a breakout campaign.

From the moment the five red lights went out under the Texas sun, Antonelli launched cleanly into Turn 1, immediately converting his pole position into a commanding lead. Behind him, Leclerc slipped past Verstappen into second place, setting up a race-long tactical duel between the Silver Arrows and the Scuderia.

While the undulating 5.513-kilometre circuit proved treacherous for several competitors—with Oliver Bearman, Franco Colapinto, and Valtteri Bottas all failing to reach the checkered flag—Antonelli navigated the bumps and high-speed swoops of COTA without fault.

Mercedes executed an flawless pit strategy, managed smoothly through the lone pit-stop window. Antonelli rejoined the track with a comfortable margin, extending his lead over Leclerc to more than 17 seconds by the time he crossed the finish line. Leclerc held on to take second, while Verstappen rounded out the podium in third.

“The car was on rails from the very first lap,” Antonelli said during his post-race podium interview. “We knew the tyre management would be critical in the heat today, but the team gave me a perfect package. To win here in Austin is an unbelievable feeling.”

Despite the dominant victory, Antonelli will have to wait at least another race weekend to officially lock up his maiden Formula One World Drivers’ Championship. Strong drives further back from championship rivals—including Lewis Hamilton finishing fourth and Lando Norris recovering to fifth—ensure the title chase officially remains alive heading into the final stretch of the season.

Nevertheless, Antonelli’s latest triumph reinforces his standing as the formidable engine driving Mercedes’ dominant 2026 campaign. With the paddock now heading south for the Mexican Grand Prix, the Italian prodigy stands on the absolute threshold of motorsport history.
