ACCRA: Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has been voted official African Footballer of the Year by the African confederation at a star-studded annual gala in the Ghanaian capital.
Ivory Coast’s Toure, younger brother of defender Kolo, has been one of the key members of the City team since being signed last year from Barcelona.
Toure finished ahead of Ghana’s André Ayew (Marseille) and Mali’s Seydou Keita (Barcelona) and thus succeeded for the first time to the crown won last year by Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o.
This was Toure’s second celebration in two days after City’s victory over Stoke on Wednesday secured the league leadership at Christmas for the first time since 1929.
