ZURICH: The visit to Brazil scheduled for next week by FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke has been called off until after a meeting between Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

Valcke’s decision follows his impatient criticism of Brazi’s failure to match preparation promises originally made by former state President Lula.

Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo has said the “incident is now closed,” but Valcke’s visit – had it gone ahead – would only have underlined that he was right – work on the stadium in Porto Alegre has been at a standstill for more than six months because of a construction union dispute.

Blatter has urged a meeting with Rousseff next week but a date has yet to been agreed – yet another in a never-ending series of delays.
