LONDON: Team GB’s Olympic football coach Stuart Pearce is expected to overlook the claims of Scottish and Northern Irish players when he names Britain’s men’s Olympic football squad on Monday for London 2012.

Wales internationals Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy, along with England defender Micah Richards are expected to be the three permitted over-age players now that David Beckham has been discounted. None of the England players at Euro 2012 were considered by agreement between the Football Association and LOCOG.

Giggs has said he is sorry that Beckham, his old Manchester United team-mate, has not been chosen for a sqad whose platform will be Pearce’s England under-21 squad.

Four reserve players will also be put on stand-by, should anyone withdraw from the squad.

Team GB were drawn in Group A at London 2012 alongside Senegal, Uruguay and United Arab Emirates. They begin their Olympic campaign against Senegal at Old Trafford on July 26 before facing the United Arab Emirates at Wembley on July 29 and Uruguay at the Millennium Stadium on August 1.
