LONDON:  Andy Carroll is on his way out of Liverpool. Less than a month after he was leading England’s attack at Euro 2012, the 23-year-old is having to confront the sad reality that his new manager, Brendan Rodgers, does not want him.

Newcastle United, however, do want him back, 18 months after selling Carroll to Anfield for a British record £35m. West Ham and Aston Villa are also interested. But none of them want to pay anything more than half the original fee.

Alan Pardew and Mike Ashley, manager and owner of Newcastle, are favourites to sign Carroll though Liverpool may have to agree an initial loan deal after rejecting all cash offers.

Newcastle offered initially to pay only part of Carroll’s £80,000-a-week wages. They also wanted to pay £13m if he then signed a permanent deal, although Liverpool are understood to want at least £20m.

Carroll fired Newcastle back into the Premier League with 17 league goals in the 2009-10 season and made his senior England debut under Fabio Capello in a 2-1 defeat by France at Wembley.

However he has managed only 11 goals in 56 games since Kenny Dalglish took him to Anfield in January of last year. These goals included one against Everton in the FA Cup semi-final and another against Chelsea in Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat in the final. His goal for England at Euro 2012 in the win against Sweden may prove to have been his last as a Liverpool player.

Carroll was not with the Liverpool squad as they left for a pre-season tour of North America on Monday having been granted an extended holiday after Euro 2012 along with captain Steven Gerrard.

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has signed striker Fabio Borini from Roma this week and is also monitoring Swansea midfielder Joe Allen.
