LONDON: Liverpool managed their first home win of the season, 1-0 against struggling Reading, courtesy of a first Premier League goal from 17-year-old Raheem Sterling.

The teenager became the eighth-youngest goalscorer in Premier League history when he netted in the 29th minute and the youngest Liverpool scorer since Michael Owen.

Reading remain in the relegation zone along with fellow promoted club Southampton who crashed 4:1 at West Ham. This was the Hammers’ biggest win since they also returned to the Premier League this season.

Michael Laudrup’s Swansea ended a five-game run without a win by defeating Wigan 2:1. Laudrup denied reports that his players had protested to chairman Huw Jenkins in midweek at his training methods.

Pressure increased on Paul Lambert after Aston Villa succumbed to their third defeat in four league games at ‘Fortress Fulham.’ Martin Jol’s hosts have taken 32 points out of a possible 42 at home in the past year. Chris Baird’s winner was only his third goal in his 200th league appearance.
