TALLINN: Estonian champions Nomme Kalju have terminated the contract of international forward Oliver Konsa after he was arrested and detained on suspicion of cocaine trafficking.

Konsa has been charged with two other suspects and is likely to be tried by the Harju court in Tallinn. The 27-year-old has played 20 times for Estonia without scoring any goals.

Sergei Terekhov, Nomme Kalju’s sporting director, said: “We had heard rumours over the weekend about this. We spoke to the police on Monday and the rumours were confirmed. It’s been a big shock for us.”

Konsa had been selected by national coach Tarmo Ruutli for this week’s friendly internationals against Oman and the United Arab Emirates but had withdrawn for what he stated as “personal reasons.”

Born on March 4, 1965, he joined Nomme in 2010 from Flora Tallinn. An under-21 international, he made his senior international debut in a friendly against Poland in Spain in February 2007.
