TURIN/COPENHAGEN: Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner has been suspended from the national team for six months after arrested in Copenhagen for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
The Danish football association (DBU) has said the Arsenal striker, currently on loan at Juventus, would not be considered available for selection until September.
A statement read: “The DBU has invited Nicklas Bendtner to spend the next six months considering his future as an international. The DBU respects any player’s right to privacy but also has some rules and expectations regarding the public profile of each player.”
The striker will miss crucial 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
On Sunday Bendtner took to Twitter to apologise saying: “Dear friends, I was booked for a mild case of drink driving last night. It was a quiet night but I am very very sorry to all my friends and fans.
“It is not OK to drink and drive. I take full responsibility”.
The Dane is currently on loan at Antonio Conte’s side until the end of the season but is on the sidelines due to injury. He has yet to score for the Italian champions.
