LONDON: Arsenal have reportedly agreed terms on a new kit deal with Puma worth in excess of £30m-per-year.
London media reports suggest the five-year agreement would represent the biggest kit deal in English football and could be worth £170 million over the duration of the contract. Arsenal’s current seven-year contract with Nike is said to be worth £55 million and is due to expire at the end of the 2013-14 season.
An agreement with Puma would end a 20-year relationship between Nike and Arsenal.
Nike is said to be in negotiations to renew its deal with Manchester United. The Premier League champion’s current 13-year kit deal with Nike took effect in 2002 and was worth £303 million plus half of profits gained from the sale of merchandise.
Liverpool’s six-year deal with Warrior Sports, which was agreed in January 2012, is currently English football’s most lucrative kit partnership, valued at £25 million per season.
The conclusion of the deal with Puma would represent a further commercial boost for Arsenal after it sealed a new deal with Emirates in November.
Arsenal agreed a five-year extension to its shirt sponsorship with Emirates worth £150 million, while the North London club also sealed a seven-year extension to its stadium naming rights partnership with the airline. The Emirates brand will continue appearing on the front of Arsenal’s playing and training kits until the end of the 2018-19 season.
As part of the new deal, Arsenal’s home will continue to be known as Emirates Stadium up to 2028.
