PARIS: New French champions Paris Saint-Germain may be losing David Beckham but they have gained a fibve-year extension to their sponsor deal with Emirates airlines.
Emirates will continue to have high visibility branding in the Parc des Princes as well as the Fly Emirates logo on the team shirt until the end of the 2018-19 season.
The airline will also have access to the stadium’s premier hospitality facilities.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “This agreement strengthens the relationship between Paris Saint-Germain and Emirates and gives to each partner the opportunity to achieve worldwide brand recognition, simultaneously enhancing the image of each partner through increased global awareness.”
Thierry Antinori, Emirates Executive vice-president passenger sales worldwide, added: “This is the perfect time for Emirates to re-sign with Paris Saint-Germain given the club’s new international players and on-going success in the French championship, as Ligue 1 Champions, as well as the European championship.
“Our sponsorship of Paris Saint-Germain is a strong platform to further extend our brand presence in France, as well as the many other football focused nations that we fly to globally.”
Official start
The airline first signed with PSG in 2005 and became the official shirt sponsor in the 2006-07 season.
Since then PSG were taken-over by Al-Khelaifi and the funds he has injected into the club have seen major players such as Thiago Silva, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Beckham join the club.
The profile of the club has been further boosted by winning the Lique 1 title this year and having a good run to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Antinori added: “Paris Saint-Germain’s growing international presence fits perfectly with our own rapidly expanding worldwide network.
“This partnership represents a strong combination of two global brands that share the same passion for success and growth, offering an international reach well beyond football and aviation.
“In a short time Paris Saint-Germain has positioned itself as the most popular French football club in the world and we are incredibly proud to be their partner.”
Emirates football sponsorship portfolio includes a number of high profile teams and events including FIFA, Asian Football Confederation, Arsenal FC, AC Milan, Hamburger SV, Real Madrid, Olympiacos FC, Arsenal Soccer Schools Dubai, The Emirates Cup and Zain Saudi Professional League.
In France, Emirates has sponsored the French Open Golf since 2010 and has most recently signed an agreement to become the Official Partner of the French Open Tennis Tournament at Roland Garros, the second grand slam of the season which commences later this month.
