PARIS: David Beckham ended his playing career on a victorious note in new French champions Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 home victory over Brest in the Parc des Princes.

Beckham was captain for the match and was in tears when he was substituted to a tumultuous standing ovation nine minutes from the end of the match.

PSG wrap up their season next weekend at Lorient but the home match was chosen for an appropriate farewell on the Parisian stage during which Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two of the goals.

Beckham said he expected to be in the squad next weekend but suggested it was unlikely he would play on the artificial turf. As to the Brest match he said: “The emotion started kicking it and it was hard to run, let alone kick a ball. It was an emotional night.”

Beckham is the only English players to have won league titles in four different countries: six in England with Manchester United, one in Spain with Real Madrid, two in the United States with Los Angeles Galaxy and now the one in France. His career honours also included two FA Cups, one Club World Cup, one UEFA Champions League and one Spanish Supercup.
