LONDON: UEFA is confident it can see off a complaint to the European commission from a Belgian players agent who is concerned that his livelihood will be affected writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

General secretary Gianni Infantino said: “A complaint has been filed arguing, basically, that financial fair play has the effect that agents can earn a bit less money.

“We didn’t think of this side effect but if this is a side effect maybe it’s not the worst.

“However we take any complaint seriously. Financial fair play has been supported unanimously by everyone – by all the national associations, clubs, players leagues, by the European Union through the European Commission and by the European parliament as an excellent example of self-regulation and good governance.

“From a legal point of view there are no major issues.”

Reviewing the long-term prospects for financial fair play, Infantino added: “The test of whether it works will be if the mindset of the clubs changes. So far we have seen a reduction in the aggregate losses of all our clubs.

“We are very confident it will continue to work perfectly.”
