LONDON: Michel Platini is not ready to concede any ground on a suggestion by FIFA president Sepp Blatter that Europe should give up one or two World Cup slots in favour of other confederations writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

In London for UEFA Congress, he said: “Asia wants more slots and other confederations want more slots. So does North America and Oceania wants another one.

“Europe has the most slots but it is difficult to manage this and it is extremely complex. There is a lot of politics involved and, anyway, the [European] national associations do not wish UEFA to loe any slots.”

In addition . . .

Platini reiterated:

1, that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar should be staged in the winter; 2, that goal-line technology will not be used in UEFA competitions, whatever other organisations or associations may do; and

3, that UEFA will outlaw third-party ownership of players in Europe if FIFA does not legislate for the world game.
