LONDON: British sportswear brand Umbro has signed a five-year deal to become the official technical partner of Premier League Everton.

The agreement will see the Iconix Brand Group subsidiary supply Everton with all playing and training equipment for their men’s, women’s and academy sides.

It will be the fifth consecutive decade in which the two parties have worked together, with Umbro having supplied the Merseyside club’s kits on and off since 1974.

Umbro will officially replace its former owner Nike as the club’s technical partner on 1st June, and the new kits are expected to go on sale in July. Nike has supplied Everton’s kits for the past two seasons.

Toffees manager Roberto Martinez attended the announcement of the agreement at Umbro’s UK headquarters on Tuesday.

Robert Elstone, the club’s chief executive, commented: “Umbro has an unrivalled football heritage and is committed to maintaining its reputation for design excellence and innovation.  Of course, we’re starting from a good place. Based on many years of working together, Umbro enjoys a great affinity with Evertonians.

“Starting in 2014/15, supporters can expect bespoke kit designs and great-looking, technically advanced training wear. It was also really important that we could guarantee fans across all ages could show their colours with pride and, as Umbro’s flagship club, all Evertonians can look forward to enjoying quality product over the term of the deal.”

Umbro’s vice president of global marketing Paul Nugent added: “Umbro celebrates its 90th birthday this year and, quite simply, no other brand shares our experience of making football kits. We appreciate the importance of kits to both players and fans. We are meticulous about creating both technical and stylish product for players to perform to their best in, and that fans are proud to wear.”

Everton defeated Aston Villa 2-1 last Saturday in what is the most played fixture in English league football. The two sides have faced each other on no fewer than 198 occasions.
