Match suspensions to be served at the final competition of the FIFA World Cup

ZURICH: The match suspensions to be served at the final competition of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ involve four players from three different countries.

The pending match suspensions, which are carried over from the preliminary competition of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, are the following:

Fredy Alejandro Guarín Vásquez of Colombia is to serve a one-match suspension following an indirect red card for the team’s opening match, Colombia v. Greece on Saturday, 14 June 2014.

Sosha Makani of Iran is to serve a one-match suspension imposed by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee for the team’s opening match, Iran v. Nigeria on Monday, 16 June 2014.

Mario Mandžukić of Croatia is to serve a one-match suspension imposed by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee for the team’s opening match, Brazil v. Croatia on Thursday, 12 June 2014.

Josip Šimunić of Croatia is suspended for ten official matches, the first of which have to be served during the final competition of the FIFA World Cup™, and is also banned from entering the confines of the stadiums for those ten matches. However, the sanctions imposed by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee against Šimunić are not yet final and binding since proceedings before the FIFA Appeal Committee are pending.

The relevant member associations have been informed of the sanctions.

The above information does not include any sanction related to doping, match manipulation or other offences passed by a member association which has subsequently been extended by the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee so as to have worldwide effect, or any decisions passed by FIFA judicial bodies that are not related to the preliminary competition of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. The above information also does not include any match suspension that shall be carried over to the final competition of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ in accordance with art. 38 par. 2 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

Finally, it is important to underline and recall that, in line with art. 8 par. 1b) of the Regulations of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, it is the responsibility of each association to ensure that all players are eligible for selection in accordance with the FIFA Statutes, the Regulations Governing the Application of the Statutes and other relevant FIFA rules and regulations.

Furthermore, the associations are and remain responsible for fielding only eligible players in accordance with the principle expressed in art. 8 par. 3 of the Regulations of the 2014 FIFA World CupBrazil™. Failure to do so shall lead to the consequences stipulated in the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
