LONDON / NYON: A decade after he left UEFA so marketing guru Mike Lee is going back under a partnership between the European federation and his Vero Communications writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

Lee was director of communications at UEFA from 2000 and 2004 under the presidency of Sweden’s Lennart Johansson.

The Vero chairman, said: “With an evolving European football landscape, UEFA is playing a key role in shaping the future and we are delighted to be joining the team to help develop and deliver effective communications to stakeholders and the international media.”

The announcement came at UEFA’s 60th congress in Astana, Kazakhstan.

A statement said: “Working closely with UEFA president’s [Michel Platini] chief of press, Pedro Pinto, Vero will provide strategic communications support on a range of key issues and the promotion of major milestones in the European football calendar.”

Pinto added: “UEFA is implementing important initiatives such as Financial Fair Play and is further promoting our national team and club competitions. We therefore welcome the support of VERO to help us strengthen our communications in these areas.”

After leaving UEFA Lee worked on the successful London 2012 campaign and enjoyed further Olympic bid success with Rio de Janeiro (2016 summer Games), PyeongChang (2018 Winter Games) and Buenos Aires (2018 Youth Olympic Games).
