KUALA LUMPUR: Marcello Lippi, Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning coach, has been suspended for one game after chaos  in an Asian Champions League tie.

Lippi is now head coach of Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande who lost 1-0 in their quarter-final first leg against Western Sydney Wanderers in Sydney.

He stormed on to the pitch confront referee Mohammed Abdulla Hassan in the closing minutes after the UAE official sent off of a second Guangzhou player.

The AFC disciplinary committee last night decided that Lippi had displayed unsporting behaviour, an offence under Article 57 of the AFC Disciplinary Code, as well as indiscipline under Article 69 of the AFC Champions League Competition Regulations 2014.

He will be barred, provisionally, from the dugout for Wednesday’s return in Guangzhou. The final decision of the AFC Disciplinary Committee will be issued after a full investigation.
