MADRID: Chinese billionaire Wang Jianlin has bought a significant shareholding in Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.

Wang, the fourth richest man in China, according to Forbes,with an estimated fortune of $13.2bn, is the chairman of the Dalian Wanda Group, a conglomerate with interest in real estate, tourism, hotels and entertainment.

Spanish media reports, largely confirmed by the club, claimed Wang had purchased a 20pc stake in the club for around €40m from current owner Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, who had been in Beijing with club president Enrique Cerezo to conclude the deal.
Wang is expected to take over from Cerezo as president.
