LAUSANNE: The Court of Arbitration for Sport has ruled that Greek football club Olympiacos are allowed to enter this year’s UEFA Champions League, despite ongoing match-fixing allegations in which the club’s president, Vangelis Marinakis, is implicated.

The CAS rejected an appeal from rivals and runners-up last season Panathinaikos who argued that Olympiacos should be excluded because of the scandal.

In June Marinakis was suspended from all sporting activities and released on bail of £145,000 over corruption charges. He must report twice a month at his local police station.

Earlier former Greek federation president Giorgos Sarris was also banned from football and told to stay in Greece as part of his bail which was set at £36,000. Sarris headed the EPO between October 2012 and December 2014.

Prosecutors are investigating allegations that Marinakis led a criminal organisation that instigated bribes and blackmail attempts to try to fix results in the top flight of the Greek league.

Both men deny all the accusations.
