ZURICH: The Zurich District Court has rejected a request from former FIFA Vice-President Chung Mong-joon for provisional measures to be imposed on FIFA. The South Korean had requested that the decision by the independent Ethics Committee to ban him for six years be temporarily lifted so that he could take part in the candidature process for the office of FIFA President.
The court ruled that there did not appear to be any indication of a defective procedure on the part of the Ethics Committee, nor was there any infringement of personality rights.
Furthermore, as the committee did not issue a reasoned decision, the request cannot be upheld on procedural grounds. FIFA has noted with satisfaction the decision of the Zurich District Court, which Mong-joon may still refer to the Zurich High Court.
