LONDON: Ron-Robert Zieler is to have the ‘honour’ of being Leicester City’s first signing since the remarkable Champions League triumph.

Zieler spent five years at Manchester United before returning to Germany in 2010 and Leicester have sneaked in to trigger his £2.6m release clause from relegated Hannover, ahead of Manchester City and Everton.

The 27-year-old’s arrival is not expected to indicate any change in status for Kasper Schmeichel who will remain Leicester’s No1. However manager Claudio Ranieri has been concerned to strengthen his squad in depth to cope with the extra fixture pressure which will arise from Champions League competition.

Spanish central defender Luis Hernández is also close to signing for free after the expiry of his contract with Sporting Gijon.

As for attack, negotiations with CSKA Moscow over Nigeria forward Ahmed Musa are also an advanced stage. He has been on Leicester’s wanted list since January and the champions are no longer put off by his £20m valuation.
