KEIR RADNEDGE in RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil’s Olympic women’s captain and inpiration Marta has left no doubt about the significance of today’s semi-final against Sweden in Maracana.

The Brazilians thrashed Swwden 5-1 in the group stage but Marta has warned against the dangers of complacency in the pursuit of a place in Friday’s final against Germany or Canada.

She said: “We can not fall into the trap of thinking it will be easy. We saw how the Swedes eliminated the United States in the quarterfinals. Tyhis is a new game. Now, it’s kill or be killed.”

Marta is appearing in her fourth Olympics and the hosts are favourites this time around after the elimination of the Americans who had won the ast three gold medals including victories in the finals over Brazil in both 2004 and 2008.
