MADRID: Spanish league president Javier Tebas has demanded a total clear-out of directors and officials linked to the jailed federation president Angel Maria Villar writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

Villar, long-serving RFEF leader and a senior vice-president of world federation FIFA and European governing body UEFA, was arrested earlier this week and has been denied bail over corruption charges.

Also arrested and detained were his lawyer son Gorka Villar, the federation’s finance director Juan Padron and the head of the Tenerife regional FA Ramon Hernandez Baussou.

The federation had initially wanted to delay today’s formal draw of this coming season’s Spanish fixtures but the league insisted on going ahead.

Afterwards Tebas said: “Villar is now history as far as Spanish football is concerned but we must also end the ‘villarimos’.

“A window has been opened but we have to open many more. A total resignation is needed of all the people who have been around Angel María Villar.

“I did not feel any joy when I heard the news of the arrests. I do not wish anything bad to Villar, his son or Padrón but we have to clean up Spanish football.

“No one who has been with Villar can preside over any more of our committees or commissions.”

The league campaign starts on the weekend of August 18-21 with champions Real Madrid away to La Coruna and Barcelona home to Betis.

The first Clasico will be in the Estadio Bernabeu on December 20, three days after the European champions will expect to have been playing in the FIFA Club World Cup Final in Abu Dhabi.
