PARIS: French champions Paris Saint-Germain appear to be heading for a break with Neymar.

The Brazilian superstar is due to be punished by the French champions after failing to report for pre-season training amid speculation surrounding his future.

He has been linked with a return to Barcelona this summer and his absence will only add fuel to those rumours.

In a statement PSG, who paid a world record fee to sign Neymar in 2017, promised disciplinary action.

The club said: “On Monday 8 July Neymar da Silva Santos Junior was due to return to pre-season activities with the Paris Saint-Germain senior squad.  Paris Saint-Germain notes that Neymar Jr was not in attendance at the agreed time and place. This was without the club’s prior authorisation.”

Sources close to the player said the club had been aware of his late return from Brazil but, separately, PSG general manager Leonardo hinted in an interview with Le Parisien that a transfer was not out of the question.
