KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTING —- Leicester City’s ex-England striker Jamie Vardy moved up into the top six of the ESM European Golden Shoe rankings with his two goals in Leicester City’s 4-0 beating of relegation-threatened Aston Villa in the English Premier League on Monday.

Vardy took his tally to 19 goals, level with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in the Golden Shoe and two more than his nearest Premier challenger in Pierre-Emerick of Arsenal.

Lazio’s Ciro Immobile remains out in front but the virus-enforced suspension of football in Italy could see him overtaken in the next few weeks.

The Golden Shoe is based on a ranking computed according to UEFA’s July rankings.  Thus marksmen from among the top five nations benefit from a multiple of 2.0, the next batch including Austria (places six to 22 ) a factor of 1.5 and the remainder 1.0.

As in previous years the Golden Shoe does not consider goals in play-off competitions.

Last season’s winner was Lionel Messi for a record-extending sixth time.
