KUALA LUMPUR: Al Wahda of the United Arab Emirates is facing removal from the Asian Champions League west play-offs after several players tested positive for Covid-19.

The Asian Football Confederation said Al Wahda officials had reported the team’s inability to travel to Qatar for the mini-league because of the cases. Al Wahda are currently second in Group A.

The AFC said, in a statement, that it had told the UAE Football Association that its request for a postponement of the group matches was impossible to grant “because of the advanced preparations in which many teams have already travelled to Qatar for the competition.”

It added: “The matter will now be referred to the relevant AFC Committees for a decision in accordance with the applicable regulations.”
