MADRID: Champions Real Madrid took over at the top of LaLiga after winning 2-0 away to Levante while Barcelona were held 1-1 at home by Sevilla.

Madrid owed victory to goals from Vinicius Junior in the 16th minute and Karim Benzema in the 90th.

This goal was Benzema’s 250th for Madrid whom he joined in 2009 in Lyon. The goal was his 250th for the club in all competitions. He is fifth in Madrid’s all-time marksmanship list, albeit 40 behind fourth-placed Carlos Santillana.

Philippe Coutinho scored his first league goal since returning to Barcelona to help his side draw 1-1 at home to an excellent Sevilla side in La Liga on Sunday as the Catalans dropped points for the first time under Ronald Koeman.

In Italy champions Juventus’ home Serie A fixture against Napoli was called off when the visitors failed to turn up, saying the local health authority had told their players to stay at home after positive Covid-19 cases.

In Germany Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski scored four goals including a stoppage-time penalty to give the German champions a 4-3 home win over Hertha Berlin.
