KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: The finals of the rescheduled UEFA Euro 2020 are proving a complication for both Tottenham and Everton as the Premier League’s seventh and 10th-placed clubs compete for a new manager.

Tottenham have been looking for a new man since the sacking of Jose Mourinho, before the League Cup Final defeat to Manchester City, left academy coach Ryan Mason in temporary charge. Everton joined Spurs in the managerial hunting ground on Tuesday when Carlo Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid.

Both clubs have a dilemma. Roberto Martinez, manager of the world’s No1 ranking nation Belgium, is admired by both Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy and Everton’s owner Farhad Moshiri. However Belgium are one of the favourites to win Euro 2020 so Spurs and Everton know they would have to wait another month to try to land their man.

Even then, there is no guarantee that Martinez would want to return to the Premier League five years after being sacked by Everton. Ideally, both clubs need a manager in place as soon as possible to be involved in the comings and goings of the summer transfer window.

Both Tottenham and Everton have been linked with Nuno Espirito Santo who has just left Wolves after four seasons.

Nuno lifted Wolves out of the second tier and guided the club to the quarter-finals of the Europa League last year. They were a disappointing 13th this past season but were weakened by the sales of fullback Matt Doherty to Tottenham and winger Diogo Jota to Liverpool as well as the skull fracture which sidelined Mexico centre-forward Raul Jimenez.

Another out-of-work target is Eddie Howe, hailed as one of the brightest of young English managers for his eight-year stint with Bournemouth. Howe was poised to take over Celtic last month but changed his mind at the last minute. Coincidentally, he was a boyhood Everton fan.

Two foreign managers linked with Premier returns are Antonio Conte and Mauricio Pochettino. Conte, a title-winning manager of Chelsea in 2017, has quit financially-battered new Italian champions Internazionale and is current favourite for the Spurs job ahead of Pochettino whose future at Paris Saint-Germain is in doubt after their failures in both Champions League and French league.
